Why I Entrusted My Prints to WhiteWall

Why I Entrusted My Prints to WhiteWall

A Choice That Is Never Made Lightly

In fine art photography, choosing a print lab is just as important as choosing a camera or a paper. It is not a step you delegate carelessly. I searched for a long time before finding a partner that matched my standards. WhiteWall is that partner.

Based in Germany, WhiteWall is today recognised as one of the finest photo labs in the world. That is not a marketing claim. It is the result of years of work, acknowledged by the most demanding juries in the industry

9 TIPA World Awards: The Best Photo Lab in the World

The TIPA World Awards are presented each year by the Technical Image Press Association, an international jury made up of editors from major photography magazines around the world. They are considered the most prestigious awards in the global photo industry.

WhiteWall won this award for the ninth time in 2026, in the Best Photo Lab category. In 2024, the jury specifically recognised their ultraHD sharpening technology for black and white prints, a feature unique on the market that brings every detail and nuance of monochrome subjects to life.

For someone who works exclusively in black and white, that is not a minor detail. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Hahnemühle Certified Studio Platinum: A Double Endorsement

There is another element that confirmed my choice. WhiteWall is one of the few labs in the world to have earned the Hahnemühle Certified Studio Platinum certification. This is the highest level of the Hahnemühle excellence programme, awarded exclusively to studios that demonstrate exceptional quality, maximum reliability and outstanding service.

In other words, the manufacturer of the paper I use has itself certified my printer. The circle is complete.

Printing Technology at Gallery Level

WhiteWall uses Epson inkjet printers with UltraChrome Pro pigment inks, at a resolution of 1440 dpi. Nine ink cartridges, including three different levels of black, guarantee a tonal gradation of remarkable precision. Dark shadows and bright highlights are rendered with a richness that standard printing simply cannot achieve.

Every file is processed with paper-specific ICC profiles. That precise calibration is what separates a print from a work of art.

My Role, Their Role

I do not handle the printing myself. It is not my craft, and I would not presume to rival a lab that operates at this level. My role is to choose the image and validate every print before it reaches you.

WhiteWall guarantees the technical execution. I guarantee the vision. It is a collaboration I chose deliberately, and one I am proud of.
